In the first letter of our Practical Turkish series, we begin our language journey with the word “Merhaba” (Hello). In Turkish, merhaba and selam are the most commonly used words when meeting someone. Greeting in Turkish culture is generally considered a sign of sincerity and respect.
👋 First Step: Merhaba
Türkçe: Merhaba. Benim adım Fatih. Öğretmenim. Sizinle tanıştığıma memnun oldum.
İngilizce: Hello. My name is Fatih. I am a teacher. Nice to meet you.
🗣️ Sample Introduction Dialogues

B: Merhaba, ben Mehmet. Sizinle tanıştığıma memnun oldum.
İngilizce:

B: Hello, I am Mehmet. Nice to meet you.
2. Informal / Friendly Introduction (using “sen”)
